(Wisdom is grey and to that extent stupid. Life on the other hand and religion are full of color.)

(He who understands me finally recognizes them as senseless, when he has climbed out through them, on them, over them. He must so to speak throw away the ladder, after he has climbed on it.)

(Thoughts, reduced to paper, are generally not more than the footprints of a man walking in the sand. It is true that we see the path he has taken, but to know what he saw on the way, we must use our own eyes.)

(Money cannot bring you happiness, but at least you can be miserable in comfort)

我將藝術化成哲學,也將哲學化成藝術⋯⋯(The gods had given me almost everything. I had genies a distinguished name, high social position, brilliancy, intellectual daring, I made art a philosophy, and philosophy an art ......)

(Money is human happiness in the abstract)

("The life of money-making is one undertaken under compulsion, and wealth is evidently not the good we are looking for; for it is merely useful for the sake of something else")

(As I study wealthy men, I can see but one way in which they can secure a real equivalent for money spent and that is to cultivate a taste for giving where the money may produce an effect which will be a lasting gratification.)

(If you want to be a cartoonist, draw every day.)

(If you”re going to survive on a daily schedule, you survive only by being able to draw on every experience and thoughts that you’ve ever had.)

(Why do musicians compose symphonies and poets write poems? Because life would have no meaning for them if they didn’t. That’s how I feel about drawing cartoons. It’s my life.)

(I would only do that if the feeling and sound of the pen gliding over the pages no longer excites me. It still does as much today as it did when I first started the strip.)

(A cartoonist is someone who draws the same thing day after day without repeating himself …)
